My top 3 Classics

We have all heard the accusations that classics are boring and lengthy and requires so much critical analysis that we forget to enjoy the book. Speaking of myself i m not a great fan of Classics but I surely do read them once in a while..I dont enjoy every classic I read but i surely have my favourites and yes i totally worship them. Here are my top 3 classics which are easy to read and will keep you hooked till the end.

1)The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald

Goodreads rating-3.9/5

My rating-7.5/10

Written by F Scott Fitzgerald and also embodying The American Dream ,this novel has become sort of a cultural icon throughout decades. I am apprehensive of classics because truth be told they often span across multiple pages and sometimes require critical thinking .To my surprise The great gatsby was one of those novels which i thoroughly enjoyed and would absolutely read it again. Set in the Jazz era, often called the roaring 20's , we have lavish parties and the setting of opulence is very apparent..Nick Carraway is our narrator through whom the story is told..We have Jay Gatsby as one of the leading figures whose feverish love for Daisy sets the motion of the story. A very modern novel ,it employs symbolism and distinguises between appearance and deception.Through Daisy and Tom the inner workings of a failing marital relationship is explored .Jays vision of an "orgastic future " and the relationship between the past and the present is told in this beautiful novel .

2)Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.

Goodreads rating-4.3/5 My rating-10/10

This is my favourite classic and one doesnt have to be a literature student to enjoy this book..There is absolutely nothing that i do not love about this book. Jane Austen is such a brilliant writer and Pride and Prejudice is her masterpiece..We have two of the most known literary characters in the world - Mr Darcy and Elizabeth. Dont get me wrong ,i wholeheartedly love the romance between these two but this novel is so much more than that.It is also a social satire ..The characters are not just painted in black and white but also evolve with time and that is what makes this novel a pleasure to read..Everyone has a favourite Jane Austen and this is mine..I can go on speaking about the book but that will just spoil the joy and this is how much I love the book.Go on and read it now.

3)Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

Goodreads rating-4.2/5 My rating-9.5/10

" Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again" and that is how the story opens .The gothic setting of the mansion Manderley surrounded by woods and the sea sets the atmosphere of mystery and gloom. The novel charms its way through your heart with Mauriers exceptionally delicate and lyrical writing..The novel explores the psychological functioning of the characters and presents a perpetual sense of dread.Once i picked this book up,I finished it in one setting as it was so very intriguing .Not only is the plot a mystery but also the writing seems like a mystery in itself making it such a rich work...i can assure you that once you pick this book up,Rebecca wont disappoint you.

Happy reading.:)

I have read The Love of the Last Tycoon by Fitzgerald and so I am quiet aware about the jazz age depicted clearly by his writings. And after going through your review I am surely gonna read Rebecca.
