Finding the perfect book to read is not always easy and often times we lose interest midway and leave it like that..I was reading Gun Island by Amitav Ghosh and i got hooked by the first few pages but as i started diving deep I seemed to lose interest and inspite of the short length of the book could not read a page further..Lockdown has affected each one of us in its own way and striving to maintain our sanity amidst all that is going on is not as easy as it seems. However after delaying for a few days i finished Gun Island..To be precise this book did not please me as Ghosh's other novels did. On a personal level I struggled to connect with the multiple issues the author tried to project from climate change to the issues of migrant workers. Amitav Ghosh is a writer that I greatly admire and this novel was not at all a badly written work. However i could not connect myself with the storyline..maybe it would have been better if the author had focused on a single issue and constructed the novel around it. Overall I will give it a 7/10.
Moving on, I plan to read 5 books in the month of April. I generally read 8 to 9 books per month but this time I have decided to keep it short and invest in a book a bit more.So Here are the five books I plan to read
1) One Day by David Nicholls
This is the first book I will be starting with and have a lot of expectations. This is one of those books that has immense hype surrounding it and I dont want to delay reading this further .It has been lying on my shelf for too long. The story revolves around Emma and Dexter and how they decide to meet only one day every year and what follows next. Mirror has said this book is " destined to be a modern classic " and i hope i am not disappointed.
2)Wonder Woman Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo
I have read Bardugo's Six of Crows and really loved it and since wonder woman is an icon so famous with our popular culture i did not want to miss this book. I have seen the movie but i have heard this book differs in the plot line and has a lot more to offer. The reviews seemed to be great and i have a fascination with DC ,so this is second on my list.
3)Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
I think i am one of those few bookworms who has not read this book .This novel is about a woman and her search for happiness and the epic journey that follows.I have heard mixed reviews about this book and want to read it myself to judge it.
4)Circe by Madeline Miller
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller is one of my most loved books and i did not waste a second when Circe came out and immediately bought it..i love Greek mythology and Circe is told from the point of view of this witch who is an outcast .The general outline of the story is based on The Odyssey .The book has garnered great reviews and i will surely read it this month
5)Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
I read this when i was a child and dont remember much of it .This is a book that is attached to my childhood and being a fantasy lowantedver I to explore this book from an adults perspective. This is one of those first few books that I read when i was a child and I would not mind to refresh that memory again. Heres hoping I have a good time reading
Please feel free to suggest some of your favourite books:)
