Reading Update

As the world has come to a standstill and India has entered a state of lockdown ,lets be aware that humanity is facing a crisis..As fear grapples the country,, we are stuck in home and left with no other options..This week I could only read two books and both of them were so much relatable with the current situation we are in.I will be linking the goodreads links also so you can go on and find out more about the Books

Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel

Goodreads rating -3.8/5

My rating-8.5/10

The first book that i read was Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel. The story is set in the days when the world and civilization has collapsed after a flu (named as Georgia flu) wipes out majority of the population.Winner of the Arthur C. Clarke award in 2015 ,this post apocalyptic novel interweaves different narratives through time. The narratives move back and forth in time ,before the collapse and twenty years after the collapse. Reading this novel during this time of pandemic was chilling and made me wonder about the frailty of life..On a broader perspective the story is about humanity and all the things that make us human..The things that we often ignore have so much potential when we face an crisis. This is one of those books that i will be recommending to everyone and will be one of my favourites of this year. Each characters in this book are given their own storyline but somehow each of their storyline interweaves with the other in an unique fashion..

The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah

Goodreads rating-4.6/5

My rating-10/10

Check out this book on Goodreads: The Nightingale http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/21853621-the-nightingale

The other book that i read this week was a historical fiction : The Nightingale by Kirstin Hannah. The setting of the book is in the war ravaged France . I have been meaning to read this book for many months but kept it delaying .Set during WWII, the story is about two sisters Vienne and Isabelle Rossignol and what follows in their lives during the war. This is a story of sacrifice, finding the strength within ourselves that we never thought we had and finding the meaning of life :to love and be loved .Amidst the atrocities of the war, where husbands are separated from their wives to fight in the war ,this story belongs to the women, whose stories are often left untold because history is always told by men..I cannot express how much i loved reading each and every page of this book .This is one of those books that has moved me,made me cry at the end and taught me to value the precious people I have in my life. This book deserves all the attention .

P.S- I would also like to thank the person who knows my passion for books and made this blog possible..we often forget to appreciate the small gifts we get in life and this one is for you.
